OmKneeHealth London
About this site
A reference on children's knee conditions, written for families and for orthopaedic and sports medicine trainees, and reviewed by named clinicians.
Page updated 4 October 2026
Purpose
Children's knees are not small adult knees. Growth plates, different injury patterns and a long recovery change the questions a family asks and the decisions a surgeon makes. This site sets out that information in two forms: plain English pages for families, and referenced pages for trainees.
The site is published by OmKneeHealth London. The clinical lead, authors and reviewers are named on each page. Where a page still shows "To be confirmed", it has not yet been signed off and carries a visible draft notice.
Editorial policy
- Sources are peer-reviewed studies, consensus statements and published guidelines. Each trainee page lists them with DOI links.
- Every factual claim on a trainee page carries its source in square brackets, for example [Ardern 2018].
- Unpublished unit data and expert opinion are labelled as such, so readers do not mistake them for peer-reviewed evidence.
- Families pages use UK English, short sentences and natural frequencies such as "about 1 in 5". They aim for a reading age of about 9 to 11.
- Figures, doses, timings and citations are not changed during editing. Suspected errors are logged and sent back to the author.
- No figures or images are reproduced from journal articles. Patient images are anonymised and used with consent.
Review process
- An author drafts the page from the literature and marks each claim with its source.
- A named clinician reviews the page for accuracy, balance and safety.
- Families pages are also checked for reading level and for clarity of the "when to get help" advice.
- The page shows its author, reviewer, review date and next review date.
- Each page is re-reviewed at least every 12 months, or sooner when important new evidence appears.
