Medical disclaimer

The information on this site is general. It is not medical advice for any individual child.

Page updated 4 October 2026

General information only

Every page on this site gives general information about children's knee conditions. It is written to help families understand a diagnosis and to help trainees learn. It does not replace advice from your child's own medical team.

No doctor and patient relationship

Reading this site does not create a relationship between you, or your child, and any author, reviewer or OmKneeHealth London. Nobody involved in this site has examined your child or seen their scans. Treatment decisions must be made with the clinicians who have.

Urgent problems

If a child has a knee that locks and will not straighten, a hot, red or leaking wound after surgery, new calf pain or swelling, or cannot put weight on the leg, contact their surgical team or local urgent care service. If a child has chest pain or difficulty breathing, call your local emergency number. This site is international and does not list country-specific numbers.

Accuracy and currency

Pages are written from published evidence and reviewed by named clinicians, and each shows its review dates. Evidence changes, and practice differs between countries and units. Figures given are approximate population estimates and may not apply to any one child.

Trainee pages

The trainee pages are educational. They are not clinical guidelines and are not a substitute for local protocols, senior supervision or the judgement of the treating surgeon.

Links to journals, guidelines and other sites are provided for reference. OmKneeHealth London is not responsible for the content of external sites.
